Effect of Starch Laurate Addition on the Properties of Mango Kernel Starch Films

Abstract In this work, starch obtained from mango kernel seeds was applied in the preparation of films combination with its hydrophobic derivatives. Chemical modification carried out at two different concentrations vinyl laurate, dimethyl sulfoxide, under basic catalysis. The degrees substitution laurates were 2.4 and 0.3, respectively. None products formed when dispersed water. However, blends starch/starch laurate (degree = 0.3) after microfluidization their aqueous suspensions. up to 15% wt resulted higher elongation break, opacity lower tensile strength elastic modulus. biopolymer suspensions crucial obtain water vapor permeability. X-ray diffraction results corroborated mechanical properties films, showing that incorporation reduced crystallinity.
